Posted: August 25, 2009
Alexandria, VA – Discover what’s next in security at ASIS International’s 55th Annual Seminar and Exhibits to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., Sept. 21-24.  From access control to X-ray scanners, ASIS 2009—the security industry’s leading event—is a one-stop opportunity to see, test and compare everything needed to meet security challenges.   ASIS International is the largest organization in the world for security management professionals.

Some 850 exhibiting companies will showcase the most innovative technologies, products and services on the market today.  More than 22,000 security, business and government professionals from more than 90 countries are expected to attend ASIS 2009.  The exhibition floor will cover more than 281,000 net square feet and contain more than 2,000 booths.  Click here for registration information.

“Attendees will see the latest technologies, products and solutions,” says ASIS President Michael R. Cummings, CPP.  “For three days, they’ll be face to face with vendors, see hands-on demonstrations and have the ability to compare products and services.”

Product and service categories include biometrics, chemical trace detection, disaster recovery and crisis management, executive and VIP protection, information technology, hazardous material threats, perimeter protection, robots, surveillance, threat assessments, video encryptions and weapons detection.

New products and services include an iris recognition system; a light that will turn on and follow an intruder as he moves through a secure zone; cameras that see color in the dark; contactless smart-card readers designed for indoor or outdoor applications; outdoor fiber optic intrusion detection and monitoring technology; a WiFi-integrated emergency mass notification system; cutting-edge metal detector equipment; digital video surveillance systems; video analytics software; bullet and blast-resistant windows, doors and other building materials; and a retail traffic analytics system that can identify shopper traffic flow patterns and measure customer “dwell-time.”

Exhibits hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 21-23.  Admission to the Exhibits is free to ASIS members.  Nonmembers may register online for free passes. On-site registration for Exhibits only is $75.

ASIS Accolades is an awards competition launched this year that will recognize the security industry’s most innovative new products, services and/or solutions. Winners will be announced in early September.

Educational programs at ASIS 2009 will consist of 160 sessions covering security topics and critical issues, as well as core security management best practices and strategies.  Attendees will be able to select sessions from 16 tracks—which include crisis management, critical infrastructure protection, loss prevention, physical security, homeland security, IT/information security, government/military security, and investigations—to design the program that’s right for them.  Sessions have been peer-reviewed and selected in a highly competitive process.

Some of the topic are “Workplace Violence Intervention and Prevention,” “Pandemic Influenza Preparedness, Planning and Response,” “Counter Terrorism: From Prevention to Business Continuity,” “The Growing Threat of Lone Operator Terrorism,” “Executive Protection:  Extracting Your Principal from a Hostile Environment,” “Women in Security,” “Streamlining Employment Background Investigations,” “Lessons Learned from a Campus Shooting,” and “Museum and Cultural Property Best Practices.”

Pre-Seminar Intensives are optional, in-depth education programs scheduled prior to the official opening of the Annual Seminar and Exhibits. Topics include “Managing in a Crisis,” “Critical Infrastructure Protection:  An Educational Forum” and “Securing Houses of Worship.”
